Urban Air Quality Improvement Experience, Challenges and Demand

With the establishment of the mechanism of air quality attainment plan management, cities have become the principal part of air quality management. Europe and the US have gained abundant experience in the city-based systematic management of air quality and the systematic intergradation of urban development in energy, transportation and industry. The representatives from Chinese and foreign cities were invited to discuss their experience, challenges and the technical and market demand during the process of air quality management.

VOC Pollution Control and Indoor Purification

VOCs are one of the main primary pollutants in various regions throughout China and are one of the major precursors for secondary PM2.5 and ozone. VOCs and there secondary products are toxic and cancerous, harming public health. As China launches the official “war on pollution,” the 13th Five Year Plan listed VOCs as an important contaminant, pushing some major cities and provinces to create their own VOCs control targets.

People spend, on average, 70% of their time in indoor environments and therefore are potentially more exposed to indoor air pollutants. In addition to outdoor pollution infiltration, there are also many pollution sources in indoor environments, which cause high indoor air pollution levels that are often more severe than the outdoor air. As people are becoming more aware of air quality and health, concerns on indoor air quality have also been raised.

Bulk Coal Pollution Control in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area

For air pollution in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, bulk coal burning is the main pollution factor, and at a certain times it can affect regional air quality a lot, such as in winter where heating by coal-fires and bulk coal burning produces pollution. In order to better implement the national requirements for the control of air pollution and improve the environmental quality of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, it will require accelerating clean energy transformation and strictly controlling the bulk coal burning emissions. In this sub-forum, environmental protection departments of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, policy and technical experts, and advanced technology enterprises will discuss bulk coal management solutions, and have presentation for the application of domestic and foreign advanced technology.
