  • On October 5, 2025 (Beijing Time), The Earthshot Prize, initiated by Prince William of the United Kingdom, announced the list of 2025 Global Top 15 Shortlisted Candidates. As the official nominator of this prize, Bluetech Clean Air Alliance (BCAA) is proud to share that its nominated candidate—ATRenew (Aihuishou) —has secured a spot in the Global Top 15. ATRenew (Aihuishou)  will attend the final awards ceremony to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in November 2025.
The solution for which ATRenew (Aihuishou)  is shortlisted primarily addresses the pressing issue of electronic waste (e-waste). According to statistics, the global generation of e-waste is projected to rise to 82 million metric tons per year by 2030. ATRenew (Aihuishou)  is committed to extending the lifespan of consumer electronics through recycling and circular utilization, thereby reducing carbon emissions and environmental pollution in the consumption sector.
The Earthshot Prize was co-founded by Prince William of the United Kingdom and The Royal Foundation in October 2020, and officially launched a global call for green solutions in 2021. As a globally prestigious environmental award, it is known as the "Oscars of Environmental Protection". Its establishment aims to inspire human action and change, uniting efforts to restore the Earth’s ecology over the next decade.
The prize calls for solutions worldwide and holds an annual selection. Its core lies in five "Earth Missions": Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate.
From all global nominated projects of the year, 15 projects are selected as finalists, and 5 winning projects are ultimately chosen—each winning project will receive a £1 million prize. All shortlisted projects will also gain access to extensive resources and platforms through Prince William’s influence and international cooperation network, to further promote the application and global expansion of their related green solutions.
The prize operates on a nominator system. It invites nomination partners from around the world to submit candidates, including individuals, communities, enterprises, and organizations that may be eligible for "The Earthshot Prize". Nominators are selected from a global network, including academic and non-profit institutions worldwide. These institutions are chosen as nominators for their ability to identify solutions with the greatest impact on the "Earth Missions". As early as 2020, when the prize first launched its global call for solutions, BCAA was invited to serve as its official nominator.
Since the first awards ceremony in 2021, the prize has been held in different cities around the world each year. From the launch of its global call for solutions up to 2024, among the 20 winning projects over 4 years, the only Chinese winning project—GRST—was nominated by BCAA in 2023.
Two years later, in 2025, another Chinese enterprise nominated by BCAA—ATRenew (Aihuishou) —has successfully made it to the Global Top 15. It will attend the awards ceremony in December to compete with 14 other shortlisted enterprises worldwide for the final 5 winning spots and the £1 million prize. This marks the second enterprise nominated by BCAA to enter the Global Top 15. We look forward to more good news at the awards ceremony. All enterprises shortlisted in the Global Top 15 will also obtain extensive resources and platforms through Prince William’s influence and international cooperation network, to further advance the application and global promotion of their green solutions.
If you are interested in participating in the selection of the next session of The Earthshot Prize, please submit your green technology solutions to BCAA’s email address (bluetech@iccs.org.cn) or contact the secretariat staff (13581857862). BCAA will select suitable technologies for nomination and recommendation. We look forward to working together to promote the application of green technology and contribute to saving our planet.
